17 members fished the Howqua area in breezy and sometimes showery weather. This event was the first for the club teams competition. Trolling in the lake and fishing the Howqua river was a waste of time however bank fishing the lake for one member was spectacular. The Delatite River also fished well.
Only 14 fish were brought to scale but included some lovely fish. Peter Patterson had a wonderful trip fishing the bank in the Delatite arm of the lake. He took 5 yellowbelly for a cleaned weight of 10.535kgs including a best fish of 3.430kgs cleaned. A magnificent catch! Les Penrose fished the Delatite River and took 4 brown trout for 1.850kgs including a nice specimen of 0.715kgs. Tim Paul on his first outing with the club had a nice brown from the same area of 0.605kgs.
Best baits were worm and maggots.
The total weigh in included 8 brown trout, 1 rainbow and the 5 yellowbelly for a total cleaned weight of 14.055kgs.
The teams competition, which is made up of 4 members per team with 2 members being nominally saltwater fishers and 2 being freshwater, got of to a great start. The leading team is the Presidents men as a result of having the good fortune of having Peter Patterson as a member of that team. The Les's Legends team finished second with trout for 2.455kgs.
An enjoyable social weekend was had by all although some members has trouble sleeping due some good quality snoring.
Congratulations to Peter Patterson for some great angling.
