Members and guests caught the bus to Venus Bay to enjoy a day on the beach surf fishing. A great group of 33 anglers left Preston at 6am to enjoy good weather with a northerly wind and flat surf and some reasonable fishing.
Fishing commenced just before the high tide, which was a bit late, as plenty of good fish where taken on the run in tide by others on the beach. Hindsight is wonderful.
A total of 35 salmon and a mullet were weighed with sixteen anglers catching fish. The fish were smaller on the run out tide but good fun all the same. Alf Breci did best with 6 salmon for 2.00kgs with the father and son combination of Ron and Michael DeBono filling the placings. Joe Grech took the best salmon that weighed 1.06kgs.
Thank you to members, who lent equipment and coached anglers not familiar with surf fishing.
All, prior to returning home, after a very successful day, enjoyed a barbecue.
