Preston Angling Club Reports

March 7th-9th 2009 - Saltwater Go Anywhere

It is hard to pick when the fishing is going to be good, better or indifferent. The experiences of our members are a testament to that. This weekend started off the same as many other weekends, full of optimism. (No wonder our News letter was known as the Optimist.) Seven optimistic members entered this weekend competition with the intent of having a great time and to connect to a few of our fishy friends.

Ronnie De Bono tried hard for limited success. Ron fished Port Phillip Bay on the Saturday and Monday for 2 fish, a Salmon and a Gummy. Frank Calleja and Gerry Florias spent the weekend fishing Westernport in the Rhyll area for the return of a better class of fish . FrankÕs best fish was a nice gummy that tipped the scales at 7.2 kg. Frank also caught an Elephant fish that tipped the scales at 4.5 Kg and three good sized Whiting. Meanwhile Gerry caught two Elephant fish that tipped the scales at 4.00 kg. Peter Goldsworthy fished Westernport for no result. He fished the Joes Island area as well as Lysaghts and the middle spit.

Leading the trip was Frank Calleja with 4 fish for 12.7 kg. Second place was Gerry Florias with two fish for 4.00 kg and third was Ron de Bono with two fish for 2 kg.

A great time had by all who attended.
