Howqua Lodge Working Bee, 29th-30th November 2014

29th - 30th November 2014
by Ken Ely

The club put on a competition after the working bee at the lodge for the opening of the cod season. Unfortunately only four members were interested in having a crack but it was fun. Rod King was going to be the gun with his knowledge of how to lure fish for cod but try as he might the cod were not aware it was the opening. He did however snag a wonderful yellowbelly, late in the day that tipped the scales at 4.49kgs. It was a really fat fish as demonstrated by the cleaned weight was only 3.545kgs a reduction of 21%. This fish was the third biggest yellowbelly ever recorded in club competition.

The other anglers fished around the lodge and the Delatite River for a sad return of carp, little redfin and crays.

The conditions were very good with humidity, thunder, lightning, rain and no wind and temperatures in the high 20’s.

Thanks to the guys on the working bee who left the lodge and grounds in tiptop shape.
