Fishing Reports

Fishing at the club lodge, October 2-3, 2014

4th - 5th October 2014
by Ken Ely

Ten members went to the Howqua lodge on the weekend for a weekend of beautiful weather and poor angling. The Delatite and Howqua Rivers were not up to scratch with five fish and one fish respectively. The lake produced the best fish trolling by Tony Dorner with a brown Trout of 0.925kgs (cleaned). Another trout was taken from the lake bank fishing at the lodge. As usual the lake fishermen caught plenty of carp and roach.

Andrew Brandi won the competition with 4 fish for a total 1.290kg. All were taken on the Saturday. A total of 8 trout were weighed for 3.745kg.

A highlight of the weekend was Ken Ely landing a 67cm Murray Cod from Lake Nillahcootie on Friday afternoon on his way to the lodge. The estimated weight of the fish was 6kg and was taken on 2.7kg (6lb) line with a No.4 hook. The bait was saltwater prawn. The Murray Cod season is closed so the fish was returned to get a little fatter.
